Waiting

WAITING for others can be stressful, frustrating and infuriating. This is especially so when we have nothing else to do and do not know the length of the wait. There is, in addition, a sense of helplessness. Sociologically, waiting can be linked to power dynamics and inequality, wherein the less endowed have to wait longer and suffer more e.g. in the queues for healthcare, housing and public services. My painting reflects more the psychological response to waiting.

This painting has been chosen to be part of an exhibition called “Untold Stories”:

In less time-conscious cultures, however, waiting may not elicit many negative psychological feelings. My painting of the same year reflects that.
